SAN JOSE — The cause of a two-alarm fire that damaged a commercial structure in a residential neighborhood Friday evening was under investigation, authorities said.

At 4:13 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a structure on fire in the 1700 block of Kammerer Avenue in the Mayfair neighborhood on the city’s East Side.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from a small abandoned warehouse and called a second alarm to assist in the response. After finding no one inside, firefighters took a defensive approach.

There were no reports of injuries, but San Jose police later responded to assist with traffic control.

By 5:45 p.m., firefighters had knocked down the fire’s core but had not yet brought it under control.
