This Phoenix Restaurant Made The New York Times List Of Americas Favorite Restaurants

The New York Times' Food desk dropped its list of 50 favorite restaurants in America and Tratto, an Italian restaurant in Phoenix started by James Beard Award-winning chef Chris Bianco, made the cut.

The Times dispatched critics, reporters and editors around the country to put together this unranked restaurants list, which features decades-old classics and newcomers making their mark.

Tratto opened in 2016. Head chef Zion Yaegashi Culley took over the kitchen following chef Cassie Shortino's departure earlier this year.

What people have to say about Tratto

Here's what Times contributor Brett Anderson had to say:

Its kitchen still proves that Arizona wheat makes pasta as exemplary as it does crust and bread, and than an Italian menu can be guided by seasonal regional ingredients, even in a desert city where walking to your car often feels like passing through a pizza oven.

Tratto, located near the southeast corner of 15th and Van Buren streets, has plenty of local fans, too.

Celebrity chef Beau Macmillan praised Tratto's homemade pasta on the Cooking Channel's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." The restaurant has also been noteworthy among The Arizona Republic dining critics.

Former critic Dominic Armato gave the restaurant a rare 5-star review and wrote an ode to its iconic cacio e pepe. Current critic Andi Berlin named the Two Wash Ranch chicken liver toast one of the best bites she's eaten.
